Abstract
This paper is an investigation into the overall advancement of entrepreneurship coupled with the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in developing countries, with special reference to Indonesia and India. It seeks to determine the factors that affect entrepreneurial exits and MSME performance from these perspectives. The paper aims to describe the similarities and discrepancies in the following aspects between India and Indonesia: an ecosystem of entrepreneurship, government policies, access to finance, and market conditions. It is apparent that both countries have gone the extra mile in putting in place the right environment for the MSMEs to thrive, though there are challenges such as poor infrastructure, lack of capital, and policy constraints that are common among the two countries. However, it is also true that cultural and, in some cases, socio-economic factors may not be similar across countries which also has a huge impact in determining the strength of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in any given country.
